3D Modelling - Building a 3D Static Geologic Model (ITM SC)

On December 1st, 2007, Yusak Setiawan (Hess – Kuala Lumpur) gave talks in Institute of Technology, Medan (ITM) in North Sumatra (Indonesia). The event was organized by the AAPG Student Chapter of ITM. The title of the talks are: 1) 3D modeling-building a 3D static geologic model and 2) Introduction to Petroleum industry

Yusak Setiawan is serving AAPG as a member of the House of Delegates and as AAPG Visiting Geoscientist. In 2003 he was the top AAPG member recruiter, as he managed to recruit 48 members in a year. For his effort AAPG sponsor his trip to attend the AAPG International Conference in Barcelona, Spain.

AAPG would like to thank Yusak Setiawan for giving his time and effort to share his knowledge and experience to AAPG Student Chapter in ITM. Thumbs up for ITM Student Chapter for their initiative and proactive approach to get external speaker to come. We acknowledge HESS Malaysia for sponsoring the program.

AAPG UGM SC Activities – for Yogyakarta Earthquake Relief December 18, 2006

ugm_aapgsc1.jpgThis program’s summary is earthquake with 5.9 SR (BMG Indonesia version) / 6.2 (USGS version) shocked Yogyakarta on May 27th 2006 at 5.56 am. Over than 5000 civil death because of this earthquake, while more than 30,000 civil have been injured and 200,000 left homeless. AAPG SC UGM try to participate to give relief effort for the earthquake victims in Yogyakarta and its surrounding. With sense of solidarity, AAPG UGM SC held 3 activities for earthquake relief.

SEAPEX Leadership Conference – 2006 October 17, 2006

Group FotoThe Indonesian Student Chapter of AAPG organized a Leadership Conference in Depok (south of Jakarta) on 15-17 September 2006. The conference was sponsored by SEAPEX (South East Asia Exploration Society), an associate organization of AAPG.
There were 75 students from 12 student chapter in Indonesia attended the meeting. AAPG sponsored 2 students from University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to participate this conference and to give them an opportunity to see the activities run by the Indonesian students.
AAPG Distinguished Lecturer, Craig Shipp, gave a talk on geohazards in this conference.

July – August VGP August 22, 2006

On July 31, 2006, Herman Darman, AAPG Asia Pacific Region president, went to TRISAKTI to give a VGP talk for TRISAKTI and UNIVERSITY OF INDONESIA students. In Bandung, on August 7, 2006, he gave the talk for INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY BANDUNG (ITB) and PADJAJARAN UNIVERSITY.

The title of the technical talk is “Borneo Giant Fields: Depositional Setting and Their Tectonic Controls”. For the career talk, Herman shared his experience on international job market.

The students in those universities are highly motivated and very active in organizing their activities. They will participate in the SEAPEX-AAPG Indonesian Student Chapter Leadership conference in Jakarta, September 2006.

More than 100 activities has ben conducted through the year 2005. this activities we funded and non funded by AAPG. AAPG Student Chapter ITM (Institute Technology Medan) June 29, 2006

Institute Technology Medan (ITM) is a private university and was established since 1960. This institute was mainly only for Civil and Mechanic Engineering since 1960. The mining and geological departments were just started in 1986. (more…)
